Description

An engraving showing Niobe with her children who have just died or are dying. She is in the foreground, clutching a small child in her robes. To her right a kneeling girl prays. In front of her a dead boy lays with an arrow in his chest. To her left women crouch and further, they open their arms in questioning disbelief. A tree to her right has had a large branch fall and to the right of this a God with bow and arrow aims his next shot. Lightening zig-zags in the background over a mountain. Up a hill on the left, a castle sits. A chariot and men with horses ride over a bridge. The water is turbulent.
