Description

Item"A": Reservoir "Font". Item"B": Oil Pot, Collar. Item"C": Globe. Item"D": Chimney. A late Victorian porcelain and brass vase lamp with an opaque white glass ball shade with a rose and thorn painted design. The globe rests on top of the collar which is decorated with a vine and flower motif. The cylindrical glass chimney extends through the shade via two circular openings placed at opposite ends of the shade. The collar has a pierced band in the form of a stylized "M" motif, to allow the flow of air. It has a rounded wick wheel and key-shaped thumb wheel with a double "X"-type design handle. This rests on a platform that is mounted onto a cylindrical shaft that connects to the REAL font or oil pot. This platform has the same vine and flower band as mentioned above and is bottomed by three seven-lobed scallop shell hanging motifs. The oil pot fits into the vase and has, on its top, a ringed band of a stylized egg and dart motif around its outer border. The vase is Grecian in design and tapers towards the foot. It is glazed a pale grey-blue with a painted gold band along the shoulder with exquisitely rendered winged insects. The body is decorated on both sides with a floral composition of golden stems, orange and flowers, multicolored leaves and winged insects. The handles are brass and are very angular with a pair of rosettes at the vertex and an elongated seven-lobed shell motif at their bases. The vase has a short stem and foot mounted onto a brass base suspended by four seven-lobed shell feet interspersed by a double scroll motif. The vase is further held by two scrolls opposite to each other, extending vertically from two of the feet. The inside of the vase is lined with steel(?).
