Description

One of a pair of silver-fused Argand lamps: each (from top to bottom) has gilded metal pineapple-shaped finial held in place by a brass screw through it and a silver-fused white metal ring of leaves at bottom; finial rests on large ball bisected by band of 4 conjoined lines; top half of ball bears an engraved round medallion with intricate decorative devices; shaft consists of: spool, (handle release with round knob on end rests in hole in this element), curved flaring element, a band of three joined rings, spool (arm attached here); tapering element (resembling top of column), column, c-shaped element; spool-shaped neck on base with band of 4 joined lines between 2 steps at edge of base; base weighted with composition; arm holding burner consists of: somewhat columnar element resting horizontally with serpentine-shaped "sides", c-shaped "top", and petal-line faceting running "down" to a hand-like connection to upright section via a rectangular length topped by a knob to regulate flame; upright section consists of burner rising above cylinder (collar to top); two bands of ornamentation run around bottom; inverted cap-shaped device extends beyond bottom of cylinder with a band of cutwork circles separating cylinder and edge of bottom.
