Description

One of a pair of carcel lamps with chimneys and globes of gilded and patinated brass with cast ornate decoration: colorless glass chimney rests on lamp base; frosted globe with bronze ring at top and bottom, etched pattern of four floral sprays, fits over chinmey and rests on lamp base; tin sheet iron burner, roughly anthemion shaped collar supports groove; hollow gallery of open arches framed by naturalist shapes and stippled background; brass knob extends through gallery to raise and lower wick; ornate cast urn-shaped element; vertically oriented bands of circles at lip; plain band at neck; bulbous base formed by bee-shaped bosses surrounded by cartouches separated by leafy devices; band of concave ovals at base; fluted column; concave base with band of flattened trefoils tops a series of conjoined ovals with floral band; squared plinth; stepped base of ornate leafy devices and bellflowers; band of geometric c-scrolls at bottom; four highly scrolled feet in relief separated by a cabuchon within a cartouche; curved tin sheet on bottom.
