Description

One of a pair of astral lamps in shape of corinthian columns with floral cut shades: colorless glass shade with flaring neck, narrowing neck; bulbous bottom; cut decortation consists of band with leaves at neck; flowers, leaves and berries surround bottom; gilded brass lamp base has cylindrical burner above an inverted bell-shaped oil reservoir; circular frame around reservoir holds lamp shade; maker's mark appears within oval: "CORNELIUS & CO./PHILAD./PATENT/APRIL 1ST 1843".; disc-shaped air vents below; ornate capital; fluted column; base with convex profile composed of leafy devices and berries; stepped base border of bosses surrounded by c-scroll alternating with roses and leaves on stippled background with scalloped edge; square base; sections screwed together with steel bolt; composition bottom with brown felt cover.
