Drawing of the Old Dutch Church in a wooded landscape in shades of grey, black, and brown: church is in the middle ground at far left and has a black roof with a cupola towards its front, also topped with a black roof; gable is white; rectangular brown-grey brushstrokes indicate stonework of church and adjoining low wall; clear-paned gothic windows on side of church and above wooden door in front; foreground left is white (snow) with a dark, bare tree which obscures part of the church; foreground right has the center portion of two trees, one black and the other brown with black stripes indicating bark; another black tree is in the middle ground to far right, and a grey tree lies on its side in center middle ground; background is forest indicated by very light grey trees over a lighter grey wash; pencil sketching is visible under the watercolor in places; surface of painting has been lightly spattered with opaque white (gouache) to indicate snow; "Old Dutch Church Front View Philipsburg Manor" written on tag attached to reverse of the framed piece; signed "David Sweet" in pencil lower left.Artwork Details
