Context

The First Secretary of the State and Office, &c. &c. &c By request SA (?) grants a passport to Mr. Washington Irving, who has been the Envoy Extraordinary and Minister Plenipotentiary of the Republic of the United States to this Court, to return to his country. Therefore these are orders to the civilian and military authorities of the kingdom to let him travel freely; and to the foreign countries where they will not put any obstacles in way of the journey of the said Mr. Washington Irving. Rather they should give all favor and assistance where necessary to good of the national service. From Madrid on the second of August eighteen hundred forty six. Daguerre El Primer Secretario de Estado y del Despacho &c. &c. &c. Por cuanto al resulto SA (?) conceder pasaporte a Cabellero Washinton Irving, Enviado estraordinairio y Ministro Plenipotenciario que a sido de la Republica de los Estados Unidos cerca de esta Corte, que regresa a su pais, Por tanto ordena a las Autoridades civiles y militares del Reino le dejen transitar libremente; y a las de los paises estranjeros adonde se dirija pide y encarga no pongan embarazo alguno en su viage al referido Caballero Washington Irving. Antes bien le den todo el favor y ayuda que necesitare, por convener asi al bien del servicio nacional. De Madrid a dos de Agosto de mil ochocientos cuarenta y seis.
