PEAT BOG SCOTLANDEntry/Object ID
MP.94.687 a-bDescription
A monochromatic landscape engraved by G. Clint after an etching by JMW Turner. In the foreground are two groups of figures performing chores by the peat bog, a group of two figures and a horse and sled of crop (left), and two figures, one bent over (right). There is a figure in the distance with a sack over his left shoulder, in the hilly countryside of Scotland. The landscape is dominated by sky which seems to be a turbulent swirl of gas, as if about to storm. The details are outlined in black. The print is bordered by a 1/2" recessed band as result of the press and plate. The frame is simple, concave and made of stained pine. The frame is backed with paper.Artwork Details
