Description

Cotton petticoat: printed and hand painted overall floral design outlined in black with tan vines, long, thin leaves of tan, purple, red and blue with a great variety of flowers and berries in the same colors all on an off-white ground; petticoat is lined in three complementary fabrics: most of the petticoat is lined by an overall print in the shades of pink and purple on a ground of white; the pattern takes the form of irregular rounded shapes with jagged outlines of two different shades of purple surrounding pink flowers with white centers (center outlined in purple with purple veins); pink sprigs resembling coral float among the purple polygons; a 5" to 6' wide length of fabric is at the hem and runs up one side; this fabric is of a white background with dense purple scrolling; white cotton is also used on one side above purple scrolled fabric; a 1" wide length of cotton runs along the bottom of the inside of the petticoat; the petticoat waist is gathered by rope drawstring which runs, for the most part, through a white cotton waistband although it runs in one section through the quilted petticoat itself (approximately 2 1/2" of the quilted petticoat is turned under at the top); 5" placket at waist; the petticoat has three seams and is quilted in an overall diamond pattern, a series of parallel lines at the bottom of the petticoat form three ridges then a band of vines and leaves and then seven ridges.
