Peter Curtenius was a New York merchant of Dutch ancestry, who had first a hardware business, and later was associated with the New York Air Furnace Co., an iron foundry on Greenwich Street, N.Y.C. This foundry was later owned by his son, Peter. Curtenius was an Alderman, an active member of the Committee of 100, and was made Commissary-General, with the rank of Colonel, in the Revolution. After the war, he served as N.Y. State Auditor, as well as in local capacities. Curtenius died in 1798.
