Description

Small covered tureen: Of white porcelain with slight greyish cast and somewhat uneven ("orange peel") surface. Cover, surmounted by large blue-and-gold-decorated artichoke finial arising from leaves, has gold rim, blue border with gold-scalloped red band above, and at each side, the initials "E S C" within a spade-shaped shield set against ermine mantling with gold tasseled and fringed blue drapery, having Louis XVI bow-knots, one gold, the other blue, at top and immediately above shield; pseudo-armorial crests are linked by serpentine line of chevron pattern, half gold, half blue. Tureen ovoid, tapering to footed base, with intertwined handles, gold, at the lower attachments of which occur leaves and berries, blue, with gold touches; decoration of tureen with pseudo-armorial crests, serpentine lines, etc., as described above on cover.
