Description

Three sauceboat and tray sets: porcelain sauceboat is "oval" in configuration with a shaped white porcelain foot, the bottom rim of which is gilded; the mid-section of the white porcelain body is decorated with a hand painted floral spray surrounded by green leafage. The rim of the sauce boat, which is gilded, appears to follow the shape of a flattened "s" curve; a broad band of buff-colored glaze has been applied as a border just below the rim and is delineated by two additional gilt bands along its interior edge'; a molded and gilded handle in the form of bird's head and neck has been applied to one end of the sauceboat. The saucer or tray, is "oval" in shape, widely rounded at one end and narrow at the other conforming to the shape of the sauceboat; the rim is gilded and at the wide and rounded end displays a molded motif that has been completely gilded on all surfacaes; a broad band of buff-colored glaze forms the border, and the white porcelain has been decorated at the saucer's narrow end with a hand painted floral spray surrounded by green leafage; at the saucer's mid-point, a well or depression has been created for the foot of the sauceboat to rest in, the well is encircled by a band of gilt.

Condition

Notes

Remarks: Details of condition: A. Original to set good condition; boat and saucer gilding slightly worn throughout. B-C. These sauceboats, although similar in configuration, have slightly smaller overall dimensions. The bird-shaped handle has less detail and is narrower at the neck, the width of gilt bands and buff glaze has been applied in narrower bands than that on boat A. The hand painted floral bouquets do not correspond to the floral decoration on boat A. or other pieces of the service; further, there is an additional floral bouquet painted on the front of boats just under spout that does not correspond to decoration on A. Considered opinion that these 2 boats are most likely from service also known as "Old Paris" possibly by same manufacturer but of later production. White porcelain body is less gray in tone than boat A. These may correspond to set of 4 figural compotes. D-F. Saucers: All three appear original to set; good condition, slight wear to gilt overall.
