June 17th 1850."; backboard on framed sketch bears following information "Loaned [sic] by: Helen Lossing Johnson (Mrs. Frank Edgar Johnson) 16 Amackassin Terrace, Yonkers, N.Y." "This sketch was made by my father for his Field Book of the Revolution - In writing of this visit to Mr. Irving he said: 'I visited Sunnyside and made the sketch...It was of this in leafy June, and a lovelier day never smiled over the Hudson and its green banks... As I sat beneath a spreading cedar sketching the unique villa, and scolded without stint by a querulous matronly cat-bird on one side. And a vixen jenny wren on the other, I observed Mr. Irving leading a little fair-haired grand-nephew to the river bank in search of daisies and butter cups.' H.L.J."Artwork Details
