Curatorial RemarksNote
This appears to be a photograph known as a "salted paper print" or "salt print." This is the earliest type of photograph made on paper. The image appears to be in the paper (not on the surface) with the grain of the paper being noticeable. The matte surface and brown/sepia color are other clues.
Identification of subject as Susan van Wart Storrow is from Janet A. LaSalle, the donor of the objects. Susan was the granddaughter of Thomas Wentworth Storrow, Sr. and Sally Phipps (Brown) Storrow and the daughter of Thomas Wentworth Storrow, Jr. and Sarah Sanders Paris Storrow.
Susan Van Wart Storrow was the author of a diary in the HHV collection.
