Black slightly curved, single edged sword (A) with a false edge extending back 8" from the point. There are two fullers, one broad, one running from the Ricasso to within 8" of the point and one shorter narrow one at the back of the blade. There are no blade decorations. Near the Ricasso it is marked "Philadelphia". The reverse side is marked "Horstmann & Sons." The grip is wood covered with black fish skin and wound with brass wire. The pommel is of the Phrygian helmet pattern and is decorated along its forward border with a spray of leaves. The knuckle-bow has a branch motif meeting in the middle of the bow. As it turns upward toward the blade, it expands to form a teardrop shape counterguard. The reverse side of the counterguard is plain, but the obverse (right) side is decorated with scrolling leaves. All metal parts of the hilt are brass. The scabbard (B) is black leather with brass mountings consisting of a throat with a frog stud and a tip with a drag. The scabbard is undecorated.
