A) Possibly a European made light cavalry saber similar to the U. S. Model 1860 light cavalry saber. The blade is curved and single-edged with a false edge, extending 6 1/2" from the point. There is one broad fuller running from the ricasso to within 6 1/2" from the point, ending in a straight line. The back of the blade is flat. The grip is wood covered with leather and twisted brass wire. There is a ferrule at the base of the grip, and a backstrap which surmounts the bird's head type pommel. The guard is of the half-basket type with a knuckle-bow and three branches on the obverse side, joining an oval counterguard. All the metal parts of the hilt are brass.
B) The scabbard is iron with one ring for suspension and a large asymmetrical jagged drag.
