Description

Copper teakettle with lid, both lined with tin; the bottom, spout and body of the kettle are keyed together with spelter; the cast handle is attached to two copper elements riveted to the body in three places each; the opening of the spout is covered with a flat lid hinged to spout; five rivets around the spout secure what may have been a repair. Body profile: Sides swell out to a maximum circumference of approximately 26 1/2" then thins down to meet a sloping line of 1" in width; connected to this body is a band of copper 7/8" tall forming the neck. Lid profile: Aside from the finial, the top of the lid, approximately 4 1/2" in diameter, makes a 3/8" slope, and then a more gentle rounded slope of 1 3/4" with a band of copper (7/8" tall) which fits into the body but is not visible when lid is in place.
