Print from Felix O. C. Darley's engraved copperplate of Ichabod Crane Telling Stories, with lines strengthened and watercolors applied by Kredel: red-headed Ichabod Crane in black coat, knee breeches and shoes, white shirt and blue stockings; he sits in a chair holding a blonde baby in a blue cap and dress sleeping in his left arm on his left knee; he gestures with his right hand while he rocks a cradle containing a sleeping baby with his foot; an old woman dressed in a brown dress with white trim on the edges of the sleeves and at the bodice sits leaning forward in a slat back chair with her elbows resting on her knees, hands folded, listening intently to Crane's story; she also wears a white cap and gold hoop earrings and smokes a white clay pipe; two children, one standing and one sitting, are between the woman and Crane; one blonde boy, dressed in a white shirt, red jacket, and yellow knee breeches sits on the floor by the woman holding on to one of her arms; another boy listens in the background with his arms folded (he looks like he is sitting backwards in a chair); to the right of Crane is a table with animal feet covered with a white tablecloth with a plate of bones and a lighted candle in a brass candlestick on it; a man, back to the audience, sits on a crude stool with his arms resting on a table; he is dressed in a white shirt, red suspenders crossed in the back and brown knee breeches; he smokes a white clay pipe; his shoes rest on the floor near his feet; the interior of the room contains, from left to right: A crane, and andiron, a pot and 4 apples, a parlour spinning wheel, 2 halves of fish nailed to the wall, a saddle hanging up, a hat hanging on the wall, a clock, and a cupboard with pewter in it; is framed with a wide, white mat in a wooden frame.

Accessioned in 1980, acquired before. In 1849, six new Darley illustrations for The Legend of Sleepy Hollow were published by the American Art Union in a special edition for its members. A set of these original prints by Darley were strengthed and colored especially for Historic Hudson Valley (Sleepy Hollow Restorations) by Fritz Kredel in the early 1970s for a special edition of prints published by Sleepy Hollow Press.
