Description

Hand colored engraving of the tomb of Kosciusko atop a rocky ledge overlooking a body of water in shades of green, brown, pale blue, and grey: the tomb, a stone monument with the inscription "Kosciusko", is surrounded by an iron gate and sits atop a rocky, tree covered ledge on far left; two men in top hats with walking sticks stand together in the foreground, their backs to the tomb; one of the men is pointing his stick in the direction of the tomb and appears engaged in a discussion with the other; another lone figure with top hat is partially hidden, but is sitting adjacent to the conversing men; two additional figures are standing in the distance on the ledge overlooking the lake in the background; tiny sailboats dot the lake's grey surface; on the opposite shore sit two houses; green rolling hills are seen in the distance beyond the lake; a pale greyish-blue sky hovers above; below the scene, on far left corner, is written "W.H. Bartlett"; on far right corner is written "R.Wallis"; in the center is the title, "The Tomb of Kosciusko"; in upper right corner in pencil, the number "1856" is written in pencil.
