Description

Pistol-shaped tinder lighter: composed of shaped wooden grip with bands of carved description on top; sheet brass divided into panels and decorated with engraving in the form of foliage, diamond divided into diamonds, and decorative bands cover square section of pistol grip on three sides; sheet brass is screwed into the wood; a steel trigger is connected to other levers so that when pulled, the trigger forces the iron clamp holding a piece of flint cushioned by a piece of leather to strike against an L-shaped section of steel which can be properly positioned by means of a screw attached to the wooden tip of the pistol (a screw adjusts the tightness or slackness of the clamp holding the flint); a chamber is cut out of the wood underneath the L-shaped section (a bit of flax or other flammable material could be placed in the chamber to catch fire from the spark); a double-oversection of steel helps support the end; a round socket to the side serves as a candleholder; the pistol rests on an L-shaped section of steel screwed into the bottom of the pistol; a small fleur-de-lis shaped section of steel juts out on the side parallel to the pistol; big screw through bottom; "(backward) RK" is branded into the bottom of the wooden grip, brass stamped "I. SAVAGE".
