Porcelain plate depicting gardens at Mount Vernon: the center has a scene of a very informal garden with a curving path through a wild-looking flower garden with a small gardener's shed; to the left of the shed is a white picket fence and to the right a brick wall; in the background is a zigzaging treeline; the rim of the plate has four small vignettes: the top and bottom have the same scene of the house at Mount Vernon an left and right vignettes have the same scene of corn, roses, pears, apples, and cherries; around each of these small scenes is a gold and red scalloped pattern connecting an inner fleur-de-lis pattern to an outer thin red line and then to a thick gold rim; on the back of the plate is a mark: "Wedgewood Made in England;" next to that mark there is a circular mark: "Sole Importers/ Jones McDuffee & Shatten Co. Boston;" in the center of the back of the plate is an eagle holding a shield with 12 stars and the dates "1913" and "1938"; under the shield is written "The Garden Club of America;" under that is an oval wreath of long thin leaves with a bunch of fruits and flowers at one side. In the center of this is the title, "Types of Gardens Through the Ages;" under the wreath is the initials RH.
