My dear Florence,
You have made me very happy / by the New Year present of your likeness / and by the kind and ingeniously presented / letter which accompanied it. You say / you want me often to look at the / likeness and think of you. I assure / you I shall often look at it as a brightener / and cheerer; from the affect it has had / in lightening up a very gloomy moment / when I was suffering from indisposition
I send you as a reminder on my / part, a volume on which my publisher / has bound up the vignettes and illustrations /
[END OF PAGE 1]
Of my works, with extracts from them / /and notices of their author, who I assure / you treasures up the thoughts of you / in a very tender corner of his heart.
Your affectionate friend
Washington Irving
Miss Florence Jaffray.
