A monochromatic landscape engraved by R. Dunkarton after an etching by JMW Turner. In the foreground of a Claude Lorraine-like landscape is a holy man praying amid ancient classical ruins. The landscape is clearly divided into three areas: a foreground defined by the row of trees, a mid-ground with a ruin of a once domed building, and a background of hazy mountains. The objects in the foreground are clearly defined with a crisp, sharp black lines, as one moves into depth, things become more and more diffused and atmospheric. The print is bordered by a 1/2" recessed band as a result of the plate and press. The frame is simple, concave and made of stained pine. The frame is backed with paper.Artwork Details
