Description

Two monochromatic lithographs, the first depicting a view of Central Park Promenade looking north. There are men with shovels and horse-drawn carriages working. There is a small dirt hill behind them with a line of trees near the edge to the right. In the distance the homes and buildings of New York appear as diffused forms. The second lithograph, which is upside down to the first, depicts the same area with a similar scene, except now our view is from on top of the small dirt hill looking south. The men are still working; some ride in the carriages. To the left, the crenellations of a castle can be seen; to the right, the various homes and apartments of the neighborhood surround the park.
