VUE DES PLUS BEUX EDIFICES DANS UNE CAMPAGNE DE ROME

Entry/Object ID

MP.94.1292

Description

Black and white engraving from an original painting by C. Lorain of two women helping a goat across a stream in a landscape filled with Roman ruins. The landscape is framed on either side by a group of trees on top of a hill to the left and an ancient Roman ruin of a triumphal arch to the right. These also help to set up a clear distinction between the stage-like foreground (with figures, cows, goats, a stream and lush vegetation) and the landscape of the mid-ground with Roman ruins. Beyond these ruins, objects become more and more diffused with light.
