Description

Welcome group on steps of Hoffman Inn, as part of ceremony to honor WWI soldiers. Accompanied by Red Hook Journal article and written description from NYS records " A reception to the returned service men was given through the efforts of Mr. William S. Massonneau, Mr. Wm P. Adams and Mr. Joseph Griffing. The exercises of the day opened with a parade to Chanler baseball ground where a ballgame was enjoyed and a photograph taken of the men. Then the men marched to the Hoffman Inn where a platform had been erected for the speakers and entertainers. Mr. John Jay Chapman made the address of welcome to which Captain Jones responded after listening to another speaker entertainers were given by two acrobats, a male quartette from New York and an elocutionist. A clam bake was then served which finished the afternoon's program. In the evening a free dance in the Lyceum for the service men completed the celebration."
