Rose Hill, Tivoli. Caption in 'A Brief History of Red Hook' reads: J.W. Watts DePeyster completed this villa in Tivoli in 1860. It became the Leake and Watts Orphanage and farm in 1908. In 1953 it was bought as a retreat for Catholic Workers by Dorothy Day, the 20th century pacifist and advocate for the poor, who is being considered for canonization.Photograph Details
