Description

"Maple Hill", Upper Red Hook. Also known as Mooney House, Lyle House and St. Clare's House. Photo has 'when leaves have fallen' written on back. 'Happy New Year' written on front. 15 Spring Lake Road (# 24 on 1984 survey of Upper Red Hook) See p. 33 and p. 320 in Roger Leonard's book 'Upper Red Hook: An American Crossroad' for full description. He writes that this was the first house in the village of Upper Red Hook. On the 1797 map by Alexander Thompson it is marked "Lyle House" named for Henry Lyle, a lawyer who lived there at the time. He was married to Gertrui "Gity" Van Ness, the daughter of David Van Ness and Cornelia Heermance.
