The collection was donated by the Pomona Grange in Stanfordville after they re-organized their collections. One record box (Box #1) holds two scrapbooks compiled by Dorothy Bowman about Red Hook Grange #1918. One includes photos, news clippings and citations for Distinguished Citzen Awards and Fair Exhibits 1977-1996 (loose – two photos showing first prize exhibits from 1934 and photos of 1967). The other scrapbook has photos, news clippings and programs from the 1940s to 1998 (when the Grange is deciding to sell the building in the Village of Red Hook. There is also a Grange Record Book, June 3, 1986 – Dec 1993. The document box (Box #2 ) includes folders with Dorothy Bowman-related items, newspaper clippings and photos (most undated, 1987 set is ID’d) as well as a 1967 magazine featuring “100 years of Rural Leadership” and other miscellaneous program materials and correspondence.
Biographical/Historical Note
Red Hook’s Grange #918 was formed in 1902 and closed down in 2006. Dorothy Bowman was an active Grange member for many years and she and her husband ran the Silver Lake Dairy. The business evolved into what is now Holy Cow in the Village of Red Hook.
