Original photo of Mapleton (also known as the house of J.W. Elseffer and W.P. Adams) mounted on cardboard, taken by E. Hoffman Pitcher, photographer from Madalin (Tivoli).
Caption of photo in 'Brief History of Red Hook' reads: 'Mapleton: Jacob Elseffer lived and practiced law at this fine house surrounded by gardens on North Broadway. Torn down in the late 1950s to build the A&P Supermarket, later replaced by the CVS pharmacy.'
Now owned by the Baright family, houses self-storage and a sport facility. Artist Tom Major drew an illustration from the photograph in 1978.
