2024.1.445Description
Color postcard showing an elevated view looking across Lake Flower toward Helen Hill and Mount Baker. Printed caption on front reads, "View from Lake Street Showing Mt. Baker and Lake Flower, Saranac Lake, N. Y." Printed by C. W. Hughes & Co., Inc., Mechanicville, NY. Used, divided back, white border, linen texture, postmarked Saranac Lake, November 27, 1940.
Handwritten message on reverse reads, "I don't like the idea of going for drives until I can take a longer exercise period and thereby gain some strength. The Italian debacle is ample proof of the soldiers' lack of enthusiasm for the war, shared I am sure by the vast majority of civilians. It's too bad the Italians lack the spunk to over-throw a regime as unpopular as Fascism is to them. I suppose they were resigned as long as their losses were small, but may arouse themselves with the mounting costs and casualty lists. Is Katherine Allan the one who worked in the library?" Mailed to Mrs. Mainwaring, St. Albans, Brockport, Ont.Subject Place
