Description

Advertisement for Parke, Davis & Co. pharmaceutical company featuring an illustration of Dr. Edward Livingston Trudeau in a boxing match. Caption underneath the image reads, "An epochal uppercut in the war against tuberculosis: Told at 29 that he had tuberculosis, and had only a few short months to live, Dr. Edward L. Trudeau -- at 34 -- accepted the challenge of a local Adirondack boxing champion and gave him a sound beating. Dramatic proof that he had learned how to arrest this dread disease! Twenty-two years later, in 1899, he helped found the National Tuberculosis Association, whose annual preventative campaign is now in progress. Dr. Trudeau lived to the age of 69." Removed from an unidentified magazine, likely prior to 1945.
