Leighton Co., Portland, ME. Used, divided back, white space at bottom front for message, postmarked Plattsburgh, NY, June 5, 1911.
Handwritten message on front reads, “(You remember the song) Hard work to lie in bed these nice days when you would rather work at something else. I suppose we have to take things as they come to us tho. And so, will try & ‘smile’ midst it all. (‘Be it wise to plant a flower’),” and on reverse, “Dear friends, My condition will not allow me to go up to W. C. for a few days yet. I am so sorry. I had to not expected to stay here so long. But my general health was so run down that one thing follows and other so I am beat in bed yet. But by staying here a little longer I hope to be better sooner. The boys would not doubt like to come down to Mr. R’s for a few days [?] you folks too so if it is allowable and they want to, let them go down there. Perhaps they will bring them down to see me I would like so much to see them. Much love to all, [?].” Mailed to Mr. Wm. Olney, West Chazy, NY.Subject Place
