Postal card with blank backing. No printer's mark. Used, divided back, postmarked Trudeau, NY, November 23, 1908. Handwritten message reads, "Trudeau, 23 Nov. Dearest Mother, your good letter came this A.M. I did not see Dr. Brown Saturday night, as he left suddenly for his house on account of illness in his family. He may be back tomorrow or next day, and Dr. Miller whom I asked said he could not give me permission to go. It would have to be Dr. B. There is a rule that patients cannot go away for holidays but exceptions are made. What I wanted to know was if I could go and come back for a few weeks. But it would be a very tiresome journey, and anyway I fear Dr. B. may not be here in time. So I fear I cannot come. If I do by any chance I will write. It is beautiful weather. It is spring today. Hoping all are well, with much love, yours, [L.H.?]. (Reverse) Use the gray hat if you want it. I got a plain black one here for 1.25--not at all stylish but it will do [well?] go to go down in. [?] for me, and till then be good. Mrs. Caldwell writes she is much better but still plans to go to Texas. Much love to all at the dinner if I do not come. Lovingly, [L.H.?]" Mailed to Mrs. M.
