Saranac Lake, Sunday.
Dear Miss Wheeler,
I have had a dreadful misfortune in loosing [sic] in some unaccountable way those callendar [sic] leaves you sent me! I don't know how to replace them and I am very much distressed. They must have in some unaccountable way been swept into the waist [sic] basket wtih some of the printed things which come in every mail. Lottie and I have each [?] a [?] on piece of white paper. Could you not put the dates of the last leaves at the head and incorporate them in your mother's callendar [sic] if you have other callendar [sic] leaves. You could cut the quoatations out and paste them on the leaves. I am very sorry for my carelessness. I don't wonder you get tired of being asked to give money to every body but such is the fate of those who give. Someone told me that Mr. William Rockefeller rarely gives subscriptions to charitable objects (that he does give and give generously you will have ample proof of when we print our annual Sanitarium report). He always laughs at his brother John for he says the public press never abuse him (William) but every time John gives a million or so away they raise the cry of tainted money and say all sorts of disagreeable things about John! We are all beginning to think of Christmas and Lottie is in the [?] of little parcels and wrapping paper & [?]!
With my best wishes to you and your dear mother for a happy Christmas and [?] that the good your hands and heart have wrought will return at this season and bring you joy and peace. I am most Sincerely, E. L. TrudeauTranscriber
