Black-and-White photograph postcard of Arthur W. Sheppard in naval uniform. He is standing in front of a backdrop painted with a tropical scene. No printer's mark. Used, divided back, not postmarked. Mailed in an Air Mail envelope [2022.144.71] to Ray Burmaster, postmarked May 21, 1945. Handwritten message on back reads, "Dear Mr. Burmaster: Just a line to let you know that I got your letter and was glad to hear from you. The War in Europe is over. That helps to bring the end in sight. We will be back someday. I would like to think that this will be the last war and that people will learn to accept their responsibilities by keeping power from dictator minded people whether their office is large or small.
