Description

"Study on the Schulykill River" painted in 1868 by Harriet Cany Peale (Mrs. Rembrandt) at the age of 69 "when her eyes were greatly impaired by cataract" (according to note written on back of canvas). Harriet d. in 1870. Harriet Cany b. 1800 - d. 1870, she was the gifted student of Rembrant Peale (1778-1860), and in 1840 became his 2nd wife after the death of Rembrandt's first wife, Eleanor May Short, (d.1836).
