Traveling medicine case, mahogany with brass handles and hinges, possibly belonged to Erskine Phelps or Eugene Phelps Edwards. Upper cabinet opens to reveal mahogany drawer and velvet lined compartments for glass bottles (only the right door opens, 10 bottles are visible, drawer cannot be opened) and Lower drawer opens to reveal 3 slots for ceramic bottles/vials (only 1 present) and6 a compartment filled with 2 sets brass scales, 1 case of brass weights, a booklet "Companion to the Family Medicine Chest" (published 1836), and a handwritten note that reads: "Christmas, 1893. To Elizabeth, As the rare old gift of healing, like a mantle, has fallen on you from the far away famous grandsire (?), from Grandma and Mother too. So to you belongs this little chest with its vials from which to pour milder drugs, I trust, my dear, than your ancestors used of yore (?)"
