collection of Atwood Machine Co. artifacts, mounted on display board (teak background): (top to bottom, left to right): a. 1/2"-12 carbon steel "Atwood" bolt tap, one thread less than USS 1/2"13. b. 20x16 Tap, number threads above no. 12 were discontinued more than 40 years ago c. No. 80 Reel Tap, special for Atwood parts d. special double thread acme tap for special nuts, these threads supersceded Atwood double square threads e. AD Spindle Blade, used on the 5B Twister, many made at Atwood and by Wescot of Umbridge, MA f. Special Step Drill for Spindle Blade Steps, used in multi-spindle set-up on Potter and Johnston Automatic Turret Lathe g. High Speed Steel Machine Reamer with No. 1 Morse Taper Shank h. Taper Reamer for Swift Hubs i. Special High Speed Drill for aluminum with No. 1 Morse Taper Shank, date c. 1931 j. Cast Iron lubricating hole cover, screw hole was drilled from a cast spot to save tooling on layout work. Finished with baked black Japan paint. k. Maple Knob, made before use of plastics l. High Speed Steel Drill with No. 2 Morse Taper Shank m. Straight Shank Carbon Steel Drill, no land back off from helix grooces n. Carbon Steel Drill with tapered square shank. o. 3/4" Hand Reamer, carbon steel, marked 15 which means it is .749 diamete. Popular sizes were stocked from 10S to 10L. They were used for accurate sizing of holes in cast iron and for hand fitting. These tools would jam in the work piece if used for machine reaming. Note bent tang. They had long taper lead. p. name plate, Japanese distribution q. .50 Caliber Machine Gune Mount, made at Atwoods during WWII. SOme of these mounts were used on PT Boats r. name plate, one of several standard Atwood Machine Co. plates.
