Description

Sepia photograph and black and white copy print, snow fall along upper Water Street/U.S. Route 1. Given to the Society by Harry Northup before his death. With note: "This scene is located on upper Water Street (Route #1) along where the golf course used to be. Note how the snow of yesteryear used to blow across the open field from the East and pile up on the road surface. The drifting was relieved by putting up wooden snow fences on the golf course to control the snow drifting. There was a number of homes there now and very little snow anymore, so the problem has basically gone away. Also the state plow trucks constantly keep the road free of snow. I believe the little white spot just above the snow bank and to the right of the second electric light pole is the cupola of the Palmer House."
