Chalk on board drawing by James Houston (1921-2005), "Old Tree on the North Stonington Road". From the accompanying letter provided by the donor:
"On North Main Street close to Pequot Trail a mile north of the Post Road, the entrance to both town and borough, there are maple trees on both sides, growing beside the old stone walls defining the road. James Houston drew the two major old ones, sentinels since we moved here 40 years ago. One has sadly died and been cut down. The other remains, now partly broken apart, alas. His two drawings were included in a major exhibition and sale at the Marguerite Riordan Gallery in 2000. One image was purchased, most likely because it was among images included in the catalogue. The second drawing, not purchased, returned to the artist's studio."Artwork Details
