Wreath of Tulips 20 Patch Quilt

73 inches by 88 inches
each square is 13X13, interrupted by 4 inch purple strips and 4 inch purple border
each square contains an appliqued wreath of 4 purple tulips on white background
1/4 inch white binding at all edges
thin layer of cotton batting separates white cotton backing from top layer
serpentine top stitching on all purple areas except tulips
floral wreaths are outlined with top stitching and each square has floral top stitching in corners and center
in the late 20's and 40's purple dyes became more reliable
wreath of roses was the most ccommon applique pattern in the last half of the 19th century
this conventional design seemingly disappeared between 1900-1924
it was revived in the 1925-1950 era using many pastel versions, during this era lavender frequently appearedCollection
