Description

Two portraits of important Williams family men, General William Williams and Calvin Goddard Williams, his son. The portrait of General William Williams appears to be a 19th century etching. He is seated with a folded piece of paper in his hand. General Williams was instrumental in the Battle of Stonington in 1814. Genealogy information as recorded by Carolyn Lack Davis on the back reads: William Williams m. Mercy Wheeler, Rhoda Babcock and Ann Babcock Calvin Goddard Williams m. Ann Billings Thomas Wheeler Williams II m. Ella Crosby Ella m. J. Hunter Lack (Nov. 22, 1905) Carolyn Williams Lack m. Malcolm Davis (Oct. 14, 1933) Eric Hunter Davis (Donor) Calvin Goddard Williams was the son of General Williams. His portrait depicts him standing beside a small table. He is wearing a suit with a long overcoat and a bowtie; he appears in his later years and is quite round in the face. Genealogy information on the back as noted by Carolyn Williams Lack reads: Calvin Goddard Williams son of William Williams father of Thomas Wheeler Williams II and Coddington Billings Williams
