Oil portrait of Captain Charles Thompson Stanton (1798 - 1880) by Phineas Staunton. Charles T. Stanton was born 8 December 1798, died 21 April 1880, son of Samuel and Hannah Palmer Stanton. He served in the War of 1812, was a prosperous shipowner. With his brother, Joseph Warren Stanton, he built "Hillside", known today as Linden Hall. His first wife was Ann Adelaide Palmer, who died in 1833. He married her sister Nancy Lord Palmer 17 October 1836. They had seven children, of whom only two daughters married: Juliet Stanton married Edward F. Finney of St. Louis and Adelaide Palmer Stanton married George A. Adee, a yachtsman, and their daughter Juliet was the wife of Dr. Raynham Townsend of New Haven and Watch Hill. Size: 24 1/2 x 19 1/2 inches Artist: Phineas Stanton
