Oil portrait of Daniel Lord, Jr. (1795 - 1868) painted by Rembrandt Peale. Daniel Lord, Jr. was born in Stonington 23 September 1795, son of Dr. Daniel Lord and Lucretia Crary, daughter of Peter and Lucretia Palmer Crary; he died in New York, 4 march 1868. Dr. Lord was famous for his work during the yellow fever epidemic of 1798, and for his research on that disease. Daniel Lord, Jr. was at Yale, BA 1814; LLD 1846. Admitted to the bar in 1817; attorney for John Jacob Astor; first president of the Astor Library; executor for John Jacob Astor; founded the law firm of Lord Day and Lord, New York City.
