Oil portrait of John A. States (27 Jan. 1826 - 6 April 1850),
He was a whaleman who kept a diary and recorded the events of the mutiny on the Bounty after meeting survivors of the mutiny on Pitcairne Island. As per Stonington Vital Records, he died of yellow fever homeward bound from the Caribbean. He was the son of John P. States and Sabrina H. Brown States.
