Lucy S. Whitford was born in Stonington March 20, 1901 to Lucy Stanton and ____ Whitford. She grew up in Old Mystic on Lantern Hill Road with her mother, grandmother, and older brother, Everard. Lucy’s mother supported her family by working as a farmer. She graduated from Stonington High School in 1919, and then attended Connecticut College, graduating in 1923. In December, Lucy married Alfred Heaton of New London. Alfred was the construction superintendent for the Merritt Chapman Scott Corporation in Branford. Once married, they settled in New London and had two children: Carolyn and Charles “Peter”. Later, Lucy was the chairman of the New London Chapter of the American Red Cross. She died in 1966, and is buried in Elm Grove Cemetery in Mystic.Made/Created
