William John Henry Pollard, born in Preston 26 may 1824 died in Stonington 24 Feb 1897. Son of William Pollard and Harriet Haskell Pollard (later Mrs. Samuel B. Chesebro), both of Preston. Married Ann Eliza Chesebrough 16 Nov. 1848 and had one child, Fannie (wife of Capt. O. C. Griffin).
Pollard was the cashier of the Ocean Bank from 1851-1852, and its President 1882-1897. He was also a trustee of the Stonington Savings Bank, and Treasurer of the Town of Stonington from 1876-1896. Charles Phelps Williams, the first President of the Ocean Bank, so trusted him that he named him the sold executor of his estate, without bond.
In Wheeler's book "History of the Town of Stonington" - 'After a life of the most distinguished and eminent integrity and usefulness he d. Feb. 24, 1897, universally lamented by all who ever knew him, not only for his honesty, but also for his benevolence and liberal bestowal of the same without regard to sect or race.
