Description

Wall clock measuring approximately 16.5 x 35.5 inches. The clock was made by Mitchell and Atkins out of Bristol, CT. Wooden cogs and mechanisms, with two large weights. The center features a printed image on paper of a cart race in front of a saloon. In the background a barn is visible with horses inside, and men cheer on the racing carts. A note affixed to the back of the clock reads, "This clock was owned by my grandfather and grandmother, on my mother's side, Frederic D. Clift and wife Prudence A. Welch. He was born in 1815 and died December 25, 1864, and she was born in 1818 and died January 9, 1881. They were married about 1835, so this clock is at least 100 to 125 years old now, and possibly older, as it might have belonged to one or the other's parents. Dated at Mystic, CT this 26th day of March, 1949. Charles R. Noyes, 29 Broadway, Mystic, CT."
