Letter, Jonathon Trumbull to Nathaniel Minor and John Denison, July 4, 1782, commissioning Amos Gallup, of Stonington, to operate an armed boat "to annoy the enemy and detect illicit trade so very detrimental to our cause." Amos Gallup had previously taken charge of a party of men raised by the Town of Stonington "to keep Watches and Wards for defence of that Town and Long Point" during the Revolutionary War."
